ADAS stands for advanced driver assistance systems: lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. On most vehicles built since about 2016, the main sensor for all of them is a camera mounted to the windshield behind the mirror. Replace the glass and the camera moves by a fraction of a degree, which at highway speed is the difference between braking for the car ahead and braking for the guardrail.
Manufacturers require recalibration after a windshield replacement, and Chip Happens does it as part of the job. We check your VIN before the appointment, tell you which procedure your vehicle needs and include it in the quote.

A static calibration uses printed targets set at precise distances and heights in a level, evenly lit space while a scan tool teaches the camera where the targets are. That is what our Monroe shop at 17150 Tye St SE is set up for. A dynamic calibration is done by driving the vehicle on well-marked roads at a steady speed while the scan tool watches the camera learn the lane lines. Some vehicles need one, some need the other, and a few need both.
Which one applies is decided by the manufacturer, not by us, and it is why we look up the procedure for your exact vehicle before we schedule.

Sometimes a warning light stays on and the safety systems are disabled. Worse, sometimes everything looks normal and the system is simply wrong: it brakes late, it drifts toward the lane line, it reads the road a few feet off. You would not know until the moment it mattered.
That is why we do not hand a camera-equipped vehicle back without a completed calibration and a system scan confirming it, and why we document the calibration for your records and your insurer.

The makes we see most across Snohomish and King County: Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Ram, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Volkswagen and more, including late-model pickups and work vans with the same forward-facing cameras as cars. If another shop replaced your windshield and left the lane-keeping light on, we can calibrate the camera on its own.
Calibration usually adds about an hour to a windshield replacement, and we schedule both in one visit so you are not making two trips.

If it has a camera behind the windshield for lane keeping, forward collision warning, emergency braking or adaptive cruise, yes. We check your VIN and tell you before the appointment.
Usually about an hour on top of the windshield replacement. Static calibrations in our Monroe shop and dynamic calibrations on the road take about the same time.
Dynamic calibrations can start from your location. Static calibrations need a level, controlled space with targets at exact distances, so those are done in our Monroe shop.
When the windshield replacement is covered, the required calibration almost always is too. We itemize it on the invoice so the claim is simple.
