Windshields are laminated: two layers of glass with a plastic layer between them, which is why a rock chip stays a chip and can be filled with resin. Door, quarter and back glass is tempered: a single layer heat-treated to shatter into small, blunt pieces instead of sharp shards. There is nothing to repair, so side glass is always a replacement.
The upside is that door glass is quicker and less expensive to replace than a windshield, and it does not involve urethane cure time or camera calibration.

The window regulator and motor, because a break-in or a slammed door can bend the regulator or jam glass into it. The run channels and weatherstrip, because they decide whether the new window rolls smoothly and keeps rain out. The lock and the door panel clips, because thieves are not gentle.
